Fixing rocking issue in E30 sport seats (folding)
Some folding sport seats develop a noticeable back-and-forth rocking motion over time. This is primarily caused by wear in the rotating mounting lever, which creates clearance in the seat rail mounting arms. The resulting play is actually as much diagonal as it is forward and backward. While the user perceives it as a back-and-forth motion, a closer inspection reveals that the movement is caused by a side-to-side motion in the mounting, which ultimately allows slight vertical play. If you’re experiencing the sound and rocking motion in your sport seats, as shown in this video: You are able to fix simply by removing the pin (depress the little ear on the clevis pin and pull out) and replace with an 30mm long M10 bolt and nut. By tightening the nut and bolt, the ears get drawn back tight, and the lever is still free to rotate. *Best practice is to use a nylon nut and medium strength thread locker as to prevent loosening over time.
