Some folding sport seats develop a noticeable back-and-forth rocking motion over time. This is primarily caused by wear in the rotating mounting lever, which creates clearance in the seat rail mounting arms. The resulting play is actually as much diagonal as it is forward and backward. While the user perceives it as a back-and-forth motion, a closer inspection reveals that the movement is caused by a side-to-side motion in the mounting, which ultimately allows slight vertical play.
If you’re experiencing the sound and rocking motion in your sport seats, as shown in this video:
You are able to fix simply by removing the pin (depress the little ear on the clevis pin and pull out) and replace with an 30mm long M10 bolt and nut.
By tightening the nut and bolt, the ears get drawn back tight, and the lever is still free to rotate.
*Best practice is to use a nylon nut and medium strength thread locker as to prevent loosening over time.
If you frequently use the folding feature, there is a risk that the threads of the M10 bolt may wear the inside barrel of the mounting arm. To eliminate this risk you can opt to purchase this combination, which will allow you to have a perfectly smooth surface inside the barrel.
*Note the width of the rail ears is 20mm, and this combination is 20mm, to draw in the ears tighter (Eg. 19.5mm) use a washer behind the shoulder screw. A 1mm thick washer for example will effectively allow you to tighten up-to 19mm.
