Here are scans of the instruction manuals for the Baum Tools iSCAN, a hand-held diagnostic scanner for European cars. The manuals refer to the scanner as both the iSCAN and the CS2000. It uses a plug-in memory module and adapter cable for each make, and each make came with its own manual: BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, and Volkswagen/Audi/Seat/Skoda.

What makes these worth keeping is the older cars they cover. A generic OBD-II code reader can’t talk to an E30, but the iSCAN plugs into the round 20-pin diagnostic connector under the hood. According to its application guide, it covers the engine (DME) and airbag (SRS) systems on E30s built from late 1987 through 1991, though not the earlier 325e and 325es. Even without the scanner, the manuals make a handy reference, with fault code lists, connector pinouts, model and engine designation tables, and service light reset procedures.

The scans are OCR’d, so you can search the text inside each viewer.

BMW
The D91-1 module, the 20-pin and OBD-II connectors, reading fault codes by control unit, service resets and coding, plus reference tables for models, engines, automatic transmissions and ABS/ASC/DSC systems. E30 owners should look at the notes from BMW service bulletin 72 02 91: on some E24 and E30 cars the SRS control unit’s data lines aren’t wired to the 20-pin plug, and the manual gives the pinout for tapping into the SRS harness instead.

Mercedes-Benz
The OB91-2 module on cars with the 8, 16 and 38-pin diagnostic sockets and the 1994-99 OBD-II socket. Fault codes and actual values are listed by chassis (129, 140, 202, 208 and 210), along with component activation and a model identifier table.

Volvo
The OB91-6 module, the engine-bay diagnostic unit on 1989-95 cars, an application chart covering the 200, 400, 700, 800 and 900 series plus the 40, 70, 80 and 90 series, and service reminder light resets.

Volkswagen, Audi, Seat and Skoda
The OB91-4 module, with VAG1551-style functions (ECU identification, fault codes, measuring blocks, basic settings, adaptation and coding), an application guide by engine code, and appendices covering data blocks, coding numbers and service light resets.
