Who makes genuine oils for Toyota, BMW, Honda, Nissan and others?

November 11, 2018
By

“Genuine” oil is a money making cash cow for most car brands. The reason is simple; they are able to buy the oil in bulk, slap their name on it and therefore charge more then something you could buy from any number of places that sell oil.

It should be no surprise that the auto makers don’t actually make their own oil.

Decrypting the maker behind the “genuine” sticker is actually fairly easy. Every fluid commercially sold also has an underlying MSDS (material safety data sheet) in case of a spill, environmental hazard or similar.

These MSDS sheets are required to be provided if asked for, and always show the manufacturer of the oil. Its literally as simple as Googling “*Carbrand* Genuine oil *weight* MSDS”
